evaulation question 3.

what kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

If we was really to make this film it would probably b pronounced as a independent film as its definitely not a major and the big six would never go near it.as we are a small British film makers we are at the level of independent film makers.

The big six would not be willing to invest there money or time into distributing our film as we are standard regular people and it would be too much of a high risk to invest money into us as we could loose all of it and not make profit which would be a bad investment choice.

As a group we will probably get it on to DVD straight away by printing the max around 25 as the maximum when we first release it as the cost of this is expensive but luckily or digital distribution its cheaper to do it this way as we will have more prints. It will take put a huge chunk of our budget also on social networking sites such as twitter and Facebook and YouTube as most people in our generation are more focused on social networking sites these days and this is where I believe we will get the best response from an audience. Film 4,BBC and warp films take on independent movies so we could try and get it on to one of them channels.

we will definitely have to distribute it in London as a platform release in the art house cinemas which is a cinema for independent movies which we hope a diverse amount of Londoners who will go watch this film and spread the word about it which will lead into more distribution of the film

evaluation question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

in our media film we included a variety of different types of social groups in our film for instance there’s a diversity between age where in our film it introduces a young single mother to a young child.in  this film the young mum is seen as vulnerable as she is a single mother and this is usually seen as a negative in the medias perception because stereotypically they cant look after themselves or there kid such as scrounging of the council just for a flat etc. But in our film we see that this mother and child have particularly washed out that stereotype because the mother is working and she also takes her child to school every morning before going to work just to look after her child.

Ethnicity is also one of the social groups that feature in our film as we have a mixed race son, an Asian mother and a black father. The black father has been portrayed, as a negative character in this film as he is in prison for beating up the mother this is very stereotypical because the medias influenced the way we based our film. This is due to the fact we know that this is just the basic that goes on everyday and its expected because that’s already the way our mind is set up. In up to date documentaries black young men feature hugely in association with crime issues, this is especially involved in street violence, gun and knife crime and gangs and on both side of the crime either as the victims or as the perpetrators of crime. The behaviors and attitudes of some of those represented also associated in black young men with a potentially violent are threat to the wider society. Furthermore the father in this is seen as a deadbeat dad as he has left the mother and child to fend for themselves as he is locked up in prison which is another stereotype.

evaulation question 1.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media products?

In our media film the conventions we have used includes a the close up camera shot of tanyas facial expressions which enhances the fact she is shocked about the way the man touches her.which is in the ending of the film where we used a cliff hanger  where the father that has just been released from prison and is following the mother who is played by tanya in the film. this makes the audience feel tension and 1have a thrill because they want to watch on but they can't because the film has ended.this fits the thriller genre also because its basically hiding the identity of the father of the child and the audience are left with unanswered question.which also makes our thriller technical because it means the thriller is not straight forward.

furthermore we also used enigma in the narrative which are the codes that limit the audience to information, it lets them have to figure what is going off in the story. They have to figure out the puzzle, things the audience should think about are who, what, when, where, how?for example in the film deja(me) gets a phone call from someone with no caller id.this is basic enigma but it still limits the audience to information and they have to put 2 and 2 together to figure out what is going on.

we can apply tordovs narrative theory to this film as there is a state of equilibrium.this where the mum(tanya) is on the school run then the disruption of equilibrium comes when the father is released from prison.we therefore understand that this where deja(me) rings tanya but there is no answer.therefore the audience automatically know that something bad is going to happen. they dont know what but it will be something bad.if the film went on the ending would have probably been something involving a bad ending with someone dying or either a restraining order put against the man.this film is generic as we can apply tordovs narrative to it.our film will come across as a thriller which means that it would include the normal conventions of a thriller within it.

screening/audience feedback

this is one of our fellow class mates who talked about our film.he generally liked the concept but there was still more we could do to get it up to the best standard.he told us before the final video went up what to do to make it more effective and appeal to more people.

the following the question we asked to the audience:
Did you understand the plot?
the viewer then said yes to this and he told us what was good about it.
What did you like about it?
The fact that there are "different camera angles" the plot and the fact that it was related back to people our agde and the different stereotypes based around us.

1st draft/evaluation

this is our first draft of the film.not much is needed to get to the final draft.their are a few editing mistakes in here but we uploaded it youtube before we recognised so we had to re-upload to youtube again after we done the corrections.

the first draft was basic and we realised as a team we could perfect it by adding more effects to make it seem like a professional film.

editing day1

Today we have put all our clips onto Adobe Premiere Pro, we have all our clips put into chronological order. Next time, we have to create a title sequence for our thriller opening. Right now our piece is actually 5 minutes long and that is double the restricted time but in our next editing day we can cut all the unnecessary clips we included.

we fount it difficult to look for the perfect editing tool to use within the film so we tried most editing tools but most of the time it was dissolves we used as it made the filming seem more professional.

editing day2

now we have made our title sequence on the end, we have our near finished version of our opening and we have also found our non - diegetic music and have put it throughout the piece so it's ongoing. We have also managed to cut our opening to 3 minutes which is also too long, we had extra time in our piece because our point of view shots were too long, we learnt that once the audience have established what we're trying to show (that I'm following someone) then that shot doesn't need to go on for any longer. We have also put the credits on the beginning of our opening and chose the font/size

making the title

this is a screenshot from our film of our title.
we thought this title was effect because it was just bold and thick.
it stands out from everything.even though the background is dark and gloomy
the outlining of the white gives the effect of the light and makes the black inc the main focus.
it also goes over our ident and it matches the ident because the ident was only black ink in water
so we basically just decided to some quick but effective thinking and came up with this.

designing ident.

This is my groups studio ident which we filmed today. We came up with the idea of being called "Black Inc" which is why we then decided to use black ink in our ident to enhance the effect of the name. To do this effectively We poured out  black ink into a glass of water in front of a white wall whilst having to zoom in extra close to capture the right moment of the inc infusing itself into the water at the right time.  we played it in slow motion. When  editing we will add the title of "Black Inc" to make it seem more professional

this student ident is perfect for our group as i believe it matches what our film is.which is a powerful and by the boldness of the ink makes it effective.it could actually be a ident as it looks very professional.

2nd day filming

2nd day filming.

Today was the day kemique finished of filming the last part of our thriller. this where the mother is en route to the school. As the mother starts to walk home the father appears out of nowhere.the space used in this shot is big.this is so we can use different parts of the building to film where the characters in the film will be walking.

We also filmed with Dorcas's little brother who played the son "Micheal." We filmed a variety of shots of him walking down the stairs. This included an extreme close up of his feet whilst walking down the stairs as well as a long shot from him walking behind the banister.

the birds

The classic thriller 'The Birds' tells of a wealthy woman named Melanie Daniel's who follows a potential love interest to his home town in Northern California where lawyer Mitch brenner spends most of his weekends with his mother and younger sibling. which comes under an attack of vicious birds soon after her arrival.killing and maiming residents and forcing them to hide inside boarded up home.A seagull attacks Melanie as she is crossing the bay in a small boat, and then, Lydia finds her neighbour dead, obviously the victim of a bird attack. Soon, birds in the hundreds and thousands are attacking anyone they find out of doors. There is no explanation as to why this is happening survival becomes a priority.

The Birds directed by Hitchcock shows a variety of  elements of the thriller genre.  the opening includes a usual every day situation which would happen in real life as main character goes to the pet shop to pick up a previously bought bird which seems like a normal thing for someone to do. A  peculiar  man comes in to buy a bird but his intentions wasn't really to buy the bird which raises questions to the audience, which is a convention of the thriller genre and gets them involved. When the woman takes 2 love birds to An enigma is introduced when the woman buys two love birds and takes them to the man’s apartment this is when an enigma is presented. The fact there is no is no soundtrack in the opening sequence shows that this thriller is different and eliminate itself from other thrillers as this is seen as the un norm as usually thriller always have non diegetic or diegetic music to enhance the thrill of the movie. This will make more suspense in the film due to the fact that you never know when something bad is going to happen are there is no clues which makes the thriller more exciting to watch as it keeps you on the edge of your seat at all times.

unknown.

Unknown is Thriller film made in 2011.

Unknown fits perfectly in the psychological Thriller genre and i'm about to tell you why.

Unknown is a Thriller about a man who wakes up from a coma and then discovers that someone has taken his identity.no one believes him, not even his wife. With the help of a young lady he tries to make it right a prove who he is to everyone.
this fits the sub genre of a psychological thriller because its main focus is on the stability of the main characters(Liam Neeson)actions and their actions they take amongst themselves which changes the behaviour of the other characters behaviour.

The elements of typical Thriller are the Hero and the Villain that are known from the beginning.

Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson) is a resourceful hero and it it shown by the way he is unarmed but yet he finds something around him that would help him fight or something to protect himself.

The villains in the film all  have the right equipment needed to try and get away with taking this mans thriller but in the end still loose the fight against Dr. Martin Harris which shows that this fits the thriller genre because the villains usually always loose in the end no matter what has happened during the film.

Other things what make Unknown a Thriller film is fast pacing which make the actions happening more interesting and put the audience wondering what's going to happen. This is shown in many scenes but one of them is when Dr. Martin Harris and Gina (Diane Kruger) have just had a fight at Ginas apartment and they have left the house but they now are being chased by the villains. This is also incorporates the idea of drama.the mental and emotional state of the characters is much more important than the physical.

Suspense normally happens when the audience are put on the edge of their seat and then they are given a clue which makes them suspicious about something or someone. This is used when Dr. Martin Harris has finally got his passport with his picture and his name and now all he need to do is prove to the rest of the people.

Unknown start with the couple (Dr. Martin Harris and his wife) travelling to Berlin. The opening scene shows how everything is normal and their travelling is going but then there comes the point where he forgets his suitcase which distracts the scene which is a red herring. Later on he has an accident which makes him lose his identity and that's what makes the movie more interesting and builds up suspension for the audience. Throughout the rest of the movie Dr. Martin Harris tries to get get back his identity and prove to the rest who he actually is.
This appeals to the audience as it has loads of action and suspects. This leave the audience wanting to know more and trying to find out what happened to his identity.

the main theme of this film is reality this is due to the fact this film is controlled by the the villain( antagonist ).the antagonist motivation is not knowing the difference between reality and fantasy which helps them produce their sinister plans.this links to the mind and lets the antagonist to have control  over the protagonist through confusion which will ultimately lead to a build up of fear

sound excercise.

this is my groups sound exercise.(tanya)a pregnant lady ends up getting robbed by deja (me) . The pregnant lady is then helped by someone whos passing by (Kemique).
Extreme close up of me

this is one of the camera shots we have used in our film.this is a extreme close up tanya.we have used this close up to enhance the effect of how much pain she is.by using this extreme close up the audience get an idea of how much pain this pregnant lady is in and we feel sorry for her.
however as a group we have a few editing errors.this is when i pushed tanya to the floor the use of camera skills was bad as when tanya ends up on the floor i am no longer around.this is wrong because then in the end i end up being back there again. This cut in the filming and we should avoid doing this but editing two clips with directly come after another thus make the film seem as though it flows smoothly.

the sound of this film is excellent as the digetic sounds match what is going on,for instance the screaming and the speech going on between the two characters in the film. I believe that we successfully added the off screen sound of the ambulance to the film as it matched what is going on for when kemique called the ambulance.a Many companies do this instead of having the added cost of hiring of an ambulance because this will be seen as a less expensive way of doing things.

Psycho

in pyscho  1960 directed by Alfred hitchcock.the audience initially think the film is based around the 40,000 and the murder is a shock.this shock then makes the audience apprehensive for the film. Marion Crane is a Blonde attractive women in psycho. She is always portrayed as a shy girl. Later in the story we learn that more of her bravery and innocents goes, and she develops in to her real character. her blonde hair tells us that she could be  a victim in this thriller as there is always a damsel in distress. Her life isn't going as well it should therefore she is slowing giving up with her life which basically leads her to her death.

the audience know that there is an killer in the house which makes dramatic irony.they dont know exactly when but it could happen again and s/he could strike again at any time.the shower scene is famous in this film as This slow scene builds up the tension of the audience. the brilliance of the scene lies in the editing.you dont see any violence but all you see is the props and this makes the film dramatic as the audience have a clear idea of whats happened.a woman body thats concealed from the camera but just seeing certain parts.such as the part where the knife dont enter but is just shown penetrating the body.this is a psychological thriller as it needs the audience imagination to understand whats actually happened. The close up shot making the audience concentrated on Marion not on her surroundings.

this film is linked to levi Strauss idea of a binary opposition as subordinate and dominate groups.the representative is negative as stereotypes have come true for instance that women are helpless and seen as vulnerable.
