Writer:  Dorcas, Tanya, Kemique
Producer:  Dorcas Tshizungu, Tanya Ahmed, Kemique Scantlebury, Deja McCoy

Date: Tuesday 16 December 2014

Our first setting is located at 55 Bosworth road. This is where one of our cast members (tanya)lives. After consulting with her parents they have allowed us to film here. In her house we would be using  areas such as; the kitchen, hallway, living room and the staircase.  the corridor is where  Docas's little brother Ephraim will be coming down the stairs and interacting with Tanya.

The second location is based outside  Five Elms school. This is where Tanya is dropping her son Ephraim to school. As this is a public place so we don’t need any permission in to film there as long as we do not include anyone who hasn't given consent to be recorded.

Access to location via:  to get  to Tanya's house you would need to take the bus to Morrison’s then its about a 5 minute walk. In order to get to Five Elms School from Tanya's house it is a 10 minute walk.

Health and Safety Issues to not
Road safety is one of our biggest concerns whist filming. Also when we are filming at Tanya's house we need to make sure that if there are any loose wires they need to be tucked away.
Potential Filming Problems:
The weather is one of our concerns as it is winter and it gets dark quickly and we want to be able to keep the same lighting it has to be consistent and has to match with each scene.

Another potential problem is that we might have problem filming outside Five Elms School. Some parents may not want their children been exposed online. For this reason if there are children near by we must get permission from their parents in order to film.

rope

-+-+-
ROPE
Phillip and bradon are two young  intelligent men who share an apartment. Superior to their friend Mr Kentley  (David)  consequently  decide to murder him. Together they strangle David with a rope and placing the body in an old chest, they proceed to hold a small party. The guests include David's father, his fiancĂ©e  and their old schoolteacher Rupert from whom they mistakenly took their ideas. Brandon becomes increasingly more daring and ups the level of danger of getting away, Rupert begin to suspect the pair are involved in David's disappearance.
The 1948 film " rope"  was  directed by Alfred Hitchcock but the whole film was inspired by a writer named Mr Hamilton. Hitchcock was inspired by this narrative because it was based upon a real story of a murder case which two upper class law students were involved in.They were from Chicago and they murdered a teenage boy in order to show people how intellectually superior they were. After reading and watching the play Hitchcock was impressed and decided to use the idea for his own film'Rope'.

opening scene

The background music is fairly upbeat and happy with a touch of tranquil which then hint's there may be some danger involved in this film.
The film starts of with a high angle establishing shot of a neighbourly shot with children and cars passing. The camera then slowly pans its way down and the audience is facing the window where the camera stops. This then creates a sense of suspense because we wonder why has it stopped at this one window and immediately think why?what?when?and how?

Rope is famous for its extremely long takes. Each "reel" is made up of two scenes which are aproximately 10 minutes with a hidden transition. These hidden transitions, usually someone's back or an piece of funiture filling the frame. These cuts are not at all harsh and almost hidden. As the actors are followed they are trapped and so is the audience. This locks the audiences attention into this confined set

Rope is a good example of a timeless thriller. It is filled with suspense from the opening scene. Brandon and Philip share an apartment in New York. They belive that they are intellectually superior to their peer David Kentley. Due to this belief they decide to murder him. From the onset we see that this meets the conventions of a thriller as it takes place in a famous city and there has already been a dramatic event involving violence and perhaps danger.

"Good and evil, right and wrog were invented for the ordinary average man, the inferior man, because he needs them" postulates Brandon; the mastermind of the murder. Brandon fits into the sterotype of the evil villian. He is a cruely malicious man who is devoted to wickedness/crime.

how to film a thriller

How to film a thriller.

This is a short thriller it uses conventions of thriller.
Techniques

  1. `POV (point of view) - When the viewer can see what the actor can see and we can picture ourselves in the actors position.

2. Fast pacing sinister music to make the audience feel anxious for the actor and places them in their point of view and what they would then decide to do.

3. This shows a dark and uncomfortable surroundings with glimpse of brightness coming from the cracks and spaces in the walls. This shot is a medium shot showing the surroundings.

4.This is an extreme close up that shows the eye of a person watching. i makes the view feel as though they know more than the actual person acting.

preliminary task.

The preliminary is when look at some type of editing rules

in our group we all decided we tried to do a match on match action. whilst we were doing this we understood in the end we we're unsuccessful as her face and the clock are not directly after another so it isn't a match on action. furthermore we must ensure tin the future that our two similar images we want to fuse together are edited so that they are directly after one another.

what went right?welll We successfully done the 180 degree rule.  We did this by keeping myself and Kemique on the same side of the camera.this rule is a key element of continuity editing i am proud our group could get it in the bag and right in the first attempt.

Kemique's walk down the corridor we edited and ended up poorly. We watch her walk elegantly then all of sudden she is seen to magically appear infront of the door.It looks incredibly unprofessional so we must make sure we do not make this mistake whilst editing again.

Title: Revenge

Tag Line:
Synopsis: A divorced couple. They have a child together. The father goes to prison and the mum has full custody of the child. The father is released from prison and poses a threat to the mother. The mums friend attempts to warn her but she's too busy to take notice. The mum is taking the child to school - normal weekday morning.

Key Genre Conventions: Our film follows Todorov's narrative theory. We are in a state of equilibrium when the mother and child are on there way to school. There is disruption of events when the father is released from prison. We realise this when mums friend sees that the father has been released from prison in the newspaper and attempts to contact the mum.

This film contains suspense as the audience knows that the father has been released from prison and the mother is too distracted to find that. The film ends on a cliff hanger when the father stalks the mum and grabs her shoulder.

2nd production meeting.

second production meeting

Today we joined together for our 2nd production meeting. This is where we picked our final idea for our thriller film.

There is a divorced couple who have a child together. The husband has been in prison and has just come out. We see the mum and son on the normal weekday morning taking her son to school. Whilst on the rush to school the mums friend is ringing her constantly as she has seen that her ex husband has come out of prison, but the mum leaves her phone at home and doesn't have the time to pick up.

past student thrillers

Evaluating past student thrillers

mise en scene is the vital media component in thrillers that most people include.

1- Poor
2- Basic
3- Good
4-Excellent

"Power cut"
this thriller i would say is basic maybe a 2 .i gave it this score because the representative of an attack was unrealistic as the building sights ect did not look right.it looks like it has been rushed but is better than the film 'hidden' because at least you can see whats going on and also the actual storyline itself is good .the effect the put on the film ruins the realist effects the film is meant to have.minimal effort was used and it was rushed.

After Eight
I believe this film production is a 3 as the there is a good use of mise-en-scene included in the film.the elements used make the thriller seem more realistic as the plot made a lot of sense.its not excellent because i would say this is a horror film instead of a thriller but other than that it was good.

Hidden
the film hidden i gave a score of 1 this is due to the fact that the lighting is very poor and everything is in darkness so you cant even see whats going on.for the students to improve on their scores they should think about changing times in order to get the right lighting.if the thriller needed to be dark the students should have took it upon themselves to find out where it was dark but not to dark in order to actually see what they are filming. furthermore the shots used were far too long which made the film look unprofessional as everything got boring and everything was stretched.this piece of work is amateur.

'hunter'
hunter was the best thriller out of the 4 and i scored it a 4 as everything was so understandable and realisticthere was nothing aboutt his thriller that could change to make it better./span>
